Review Overview

As more men are realizing they have low testosterone, more supplement companies are coming forward to attempt to solve the problem.

Each one trying to stand out from the other with some gimmick or ‘special ingredient’. One in particular that grabbed our attention recently is High Test by BioXgenic.

However they don’t offer a special ingredient – they’ve been thinking bigger. High Test, is trying to pass off being both a Testosterone Booster and a Prostate Protector.

We’ve heard this one before with the High T Senior+  testosterone and prostate supplement… which turned out to be horribly formulated.

And we have already taken this product, we can tell you right now… there’s a similar situation occurring.

What does High Test do?

As we’ve mentioned above, when supplement’s try to split their purpose with a ‘2-for-1’ angle – the pills are only of a certain size, it takes away the potency that it could have for fixing the main issue.

On their website BioXgenic claims that High Test will:

  • Boost Testosterone Levels
  • Increase Strength & Muscle
  • Protects Prostate
  • Increases Men’s libido and energy

What’s worrying is that this description fails to mention how it interacts with ‘free’ testosterone, or how it deals with estrogen production which is a major concern for the older man.

Sex Horomone Binding Globulin (SHBG) decreasing properties are not mentioned once in the product’s write up – the hormone which binds testosterone and makes it unusable.

Nor are aromatase inhibitors – these are nutrients that decrease the effectiveness of the aromatase enzyme which converts testosterone into estrogen.

We hoped this lack of information was purely to simplify the product to the less knowledgeable in this area… We soon found out after analyzing the ingredients.

To see what we recommend, we’ve created a shortlist of the best testosterone boosters on the market, you can check them out below:

How does High Test work?

High Test, unfortunately works by operating behind a range of technical proprietary blends. It makes it far more difficult for us to learn the side effects, or if the product is effective.

In total it contains four proprietary blends, luckily one of them only contains a single ingredient.

In total, there are 13 ingredients in this product:

high test

Zinc – Thankfully, we know that we’re getting a good amount of Zinc here. Zinc is needed for a process in the brain which releases luteinzing hormones – this allows a release of testosterone, growth hormone and follicle stimulating hormones to be released throughout the body.

Hormone Releasing X Complex

L-Glutamine – Has been used for years in bodybuilding supplements to help with the release of testosterone when used with L-Arginine. However, this has only been proven to work when the individual taking L-Glutamine has a deficiency for it. Without that it makes no difference in health individuals.

L-Arginine – This nutrient helps the body produce nitric oxide, which aids in bloodflow for the body. It helps manage with erectile dysfunction.

L-Lysine – More commonly used to stave off herpes simplex from recurring. L-Lysine has been thought to help increase muscle mass, and lowering glucose, which does make sense if you know insulin resistance can affect testosterone levels. Unfortunately there has been no clinical trial to prove this.

L-Tyrosine – An amino acid used to reduce stress. The cortisol produced by stress does suppress testosterone production. Without the stress, this may indirectly may increase T levels.

GABA – A depressive neurotransmitting compound. Thought to increase growth hormone, but this was disproved. GABA relieves stress, so much like L-Tyrosine indirectly may increase T levels.

L-Ornithine – An amino acid thought to lower cortisol, however there has been many tests that show little evidence for this being the case.

Testosterone Boosting X Complex

Fenugreek – A potent libido enhancer, but again, another booster who’s boosting powers are indirect – Fenugreek regulates the metabolism of blood sugars which affects insulin, which then affects sex hormone binding globulin to lower their numbers. This finally leads to an increase in free testosterone. It’s a good ingredient, but it shouldn’t be the main attraction like it is here.

Natural Factors X Complex

Tribulus Terrestris – The outcast. Tribulus was once thought to be a potent testosterone booster, however, according to recent clinical studies it has been reported that tribulus makes negligible difference.

Eurycoma Longifolia – Also known as LongJack. There is no evidence of LongJack improving testosterone levels, but it has been seen to have anti-estrogen and pro-erectile qualities, but the evidence for these positives are sparse.

Avena Sativa – Has been seen to produce a significant rise in sex drive for men. Unfortunately however, this was seen in a study that used 300mg of it per day. The amount in this product is hard to estimate.

Prostate Safety X Complex

Saw Palmetto – Once thought to increase testosterone, unfortunately this has been proven to wrong. However, the current evidence for how it effects the prostrate is inconclusive, so there might be some hope.

Beta Sitosterol – The properties of Beta Sitosterol has been seen to work as a solid aromatase inhibitor, however we don’t know how much of it we are receiving in this product.

Bioperine – The black pepper raises the body’s bioavailability and allows it to absorb more nutrients from the product.

This really is a mixed bag effective and ineffective ingredients. This is typical of proprietary blends, and usually done to bundle the cheaper ingredients into the product in large amounts and save themselves some money in production.

You should always stay clear of proprietary blends and try to find as many nutrients as possible that match our most recommended list. Each ingredient is clinically proven and linked to a thorough study:

Okay, so how do I take it?

1 capsule 3 times a day. In BioXgenic’s eyes that counts as a single serving. It seems however, this has mainly been done for a marketing ploy to boast that product can make a difference with just one serving a day.

Aside from the way they’ve presented it, this is actually a pretty good way to dose a testosterone booster. Multiple times a day is great for keeping T levels elevated and consistently supplied.

Is it dangerous, are there side effects?

Being a product full of proprietary blends, I am unable to answer that question. There’s no way to get a full read out on the dosage to process the information. However, if you are expecting the worst, the best thing to do is to check in with our Side Effects page to get an idea of what you might, or might not, have happen.

Is there anything better out there?
